Personal: Age 44. Grew up on a farm in La Harpe (population 1,400), Ill. Son of Mike and Janet. Father is a farmer. Mother is a beautician. His grandparents lived down the street. Boyd was a 4-H member. The small family farm included corn, beans and hogs. Married to Maureen. They are the parents of four: Michael, a KCC student working to become a paramedic; Maddie, a sophomore at Manteno High; Milana, an eighth-grader at Manteno; and Mitchell, a fifth-grader at Manteno.
Education: La Harpe High School, which now has been consolidated. Boyd played football and baseball, was a member of the scholastic bowl team, and was voted “Best Personality.” Degree from Illinois State University in English education with a minor in history. Master’s degree and doctorate in English from Illinois State.
Profession: English teacher at Morton High School. Taught in dual credit program at Illinois Central College. Became teaching chair for developmental studies at Illinois Central, then associate dean of English, humanities and language studies before joining Kankakee Community College, where he is vice president for instructional and student success.
Community: Has enjoyed coaching his children in recreational sports, baseball, softball and basketball. Active with the Manteno Chamber of Commerce. Member of the Kankakee Area Regional Vocational Education System Board.
Relaxation: Lifts weights, both at home and at the facility at Kankakee Community College.
