Parents say mold issues plague middle school
OAKDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Parents say mold at a Long Island school is sickening their children.
WCBS-TV reports Oakdale Bohemia Middle School administrators say excessive summer heat and humidity have contributed to conditions in the building. Contractors are currently inspecting an area where the school orchestra plays.
Parents say their children are having respiratory issues. They say students should be moved to another school until officials handle the mold issue.
Connetquot Teachers’ Association President Tony Felicio says the district is closing affected areas but he’s not sure if it’s enough. Felicio says he’s going to propose a thorough building cleaning.
The district says contractors determined there weren’t “any indoor airborne mold concerns within the subject spaces.”
