Agent says ex-Black Spring Break employee works in drug ring

April 5, 2018

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — A federal agent has testified that a former Black Spring Break promoter is a major player in a decades-long drug trafficking ring.

DEA special agent Don Penny testified Tuesday that an investigation led authorities to identify 46-year-old Keith Lavell Brown and co-defendant 26-year-old Jaycie Mario Thomas as associated in a drug-trafficking scheme that began in 2009.

The Sun Herald of Biloxi reports the investigation began when authorities stopped as shipment of more than 11 pounds (5 kilograms) of cocaine headed to Moss Point.

Brown and Thomas have been indicted on possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

Each man faces a possible life sentence. Brown returns to court Friday, while Thomas is scheduled to go to trial in June.

The newspaper says Brown isn’t associated with this year’s Black Beach Weekend.
