Delylia Gail Maynard of Huntington

DELYLIA GAIL MAYNARD, 70, of Huntington, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She is now in the loving arms of her Lord. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 23, 1948, a daughter of the late Talmedge and Laura Isaacs Ramey. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Edens and Frieda Bowers. Gail was a 1967 graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School. She earned bachelor and master degrees from Marshall University College of Education. She began her teaching career at Buffalo Elementary School and taught for thirty years. After retiring from teaching, she became a student teacher supervisor at Marshall University. She worked diligently to further the careers of numerous elementary school educators in Wayne County. Most recently she was a Math Facilitator and mentor for new elementary school educators. She and Dewey enjoyed Marshall University athletics and are longtime season ticket holders in football and basketball. She treasured family time at the beach and in the mountains. Gail was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Ceredo and participated in church choir for fifty years. She also served as youth choir director and Sunday school teacher and sat on numerous church committees through the years. Gail is survived by her loving husband, Dewey Maynard; three devoted sons and wonderful daughters-in-law, Ryan and Alicia Maynard of Paintsville, Ky., Sean and Stephanie Maynard of Huntington, and Brent and Miranda Maynard of Huntington; eleven grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Tommy, Sophia, R.J., Beaux, Scout, S.J., Silas, Solomon, Savannah, Isaac and Ellie Rae. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Also surviving are two brothers, Fred Ramey (Charlotte), Charles Ramey and friend Judy Smith, one sister, Barbara Sanchez, all of Huntington; two uncles, Paul Isaacs (Shirley) of Boise, Idaho, and Tom Isaacs of Kenova. Funeral services were 1 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Ceredo with Pastor Rodney Hale and Pastor Fred Ramey officiating. Burial followed in S.D. Copley Cemetery, Dunlow, W.Va. Pallbearers will be her nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the choir of First Baptist Church of Ceredo, P.O. Box 967, Ceredo, WV 25507; the Good Samaritan Center, 1523 Chestnut Street, Kenova, WV 25530; or the charity of your choosing. Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova is assisting the family.
