Husky golf wins opener
Shelby-Rising City golf took to the course for the first time this season and proved to be too much for two other teams in a triangular meet March 25 at Osceola.
The Huskies put together a total of 182 with their top four golfers and finished a distant 71 shots ahead of High Plains Community. Heartland Lutheran with only three golfers, was unable to record a team score.
S-RC also had six of the top seven individual scores led by Alec Wieseman shooting a 40. Quin Micek was six shots back alone in second place while Bailey Belt and Heartland Lutheran’s Sam Schrage both shot 47.
Complete Husky scoring included Adric Garcia and Connor Morrison both carding 49.
“It was a cool damp day and everyone was excited to be able to golf outside on the whole course for first time,” coach Jon Riggs said in comments sent to The Banner-Press.
“Alec Wieseman was able to get around the golf course and make some puts to shoot the lowest score of a 40. That was followed by Quin Micek and Grant Brigham (from the junior varsity squad) who were able to keep the ball in the fairway throughout the day, while Bailey Belt finished one stroke behind them.
“With only having two practices out on the golf course, I am pleased at how the golf team did. There is a lot of work ahead but it looks like there will be plenty of competition. Next week we will go to Friend, and that will be a good test.”
