Troopers rescue baby raccoons from middle of road
HATFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Three baby raccoons stranded in the middle of a Massachusetts highway are safe thanks to the efforts of two state troopers.
The raccoons were spotted in the middle of Route 5 in Hatfield on Wednesday and were in danger of being run over.
An agency spokesman says Trooper Jason Yagodzinski moved the raccoons onto the grass at the side of the highway , then Trooper Robert Wyckoff went home to get a cat carrier he owned to carry the animals.
They were then transported to a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist in Wendell, who said the babies were siblings, malnourished, and probably orphans.
The specialist will rehabilitate and eventually release the raccoons.
