Children’s Literacy Foundation grants awarded
WATERBURY CENTER, Vt. (AP) — The Children’s Literacy Foundation has awarded 10 grants to New Hampshire and Vermont organizations serving low-income, at-risk and rural children under 12 this fall.
The grants provide a storytelling event with one of the foundation’s authors, illustrators or storytellers; an optional family discussion on reading together; tips for helping children develop strong literacy skills; a new onsite library of children’s books for program partners; and two books for each child.
Vermont organizations selected for grants are the Bennington County Head Start/Early Head Start; Capstone Community Action Head Start in Barre; Newport Head Start; Shelburne Museum; and Wonderfeet Kids’ Museum in Rutland.
New Hampshire organizations are the Belmont Elementary School Afterschool Program; the Greater Tilton Area Family Resource Center; the Seabrook Adventure Zone; the Spaulding Youth Center in Northfield; and the Troy Elementary School ACES Program.
