Bocchino dedicated to neighbors in 150th
Dear friends and neighbors in the 150th District,
I am writing today to ask for your support in re-electing Mike Bocchino as our state representative from the 150th district. Mike has served us well; you have read or heard elsewhere of his many accomplishments in Hartford which have benefited his constituents back home in Greenwich. But here is something you might not have known — an example of how Mike is always working diligently and without fanfare behind the scenes to help and support the citizens of Old Greenwich and Riverside.
You probably remember last spring when a year long battle between the citizens of Old Greenwich and the Greenwich Department of Public Works came to a head. DPW needed to repair the bridge which carries Sound Beach Avenue over the Cider Mill Creek from Binney Park. In the “while we’re at it” category, they also proposed to raise Sound Beach Avenue 2 to 3 feet from the Perrot circle all the way to Wesskum Wood, as well as build a massive 100-foot diameter rotary to replace the present intersection.
The project, if seen to completion, would have in essence sunk the beautiful Jeffersonian Perrot Memorial Library below street level and destroyed the unique ambiance of the gateway to Old Greenwich.
Needless to say, the villagers of Old Greenwich were incensed. Things were not looking promising for us in front of Planning and Zoning as DPW bolstered their case with references to state and federal laws as well as the dreaded FEMA.
At this point, the “Don’t Sink the Perrot” committee turned to Mike Bocchino for help. Mike did not hesitate to speak on our behalf at Planning and Zoning meetings. He quickly contacted the appropriate state authorities charged with the oversight of this project and was able to get us the complete set of facts without DPW “spin.” He gave us the ammunition to defeat the proposal and save the historic and beautiful entrance to Old Greenwich.
This is just one example of Mike Bocchino’s tireless dedication to the citizens of the 150th district. We need to continue to have his voice heard in Hartford, and we encourage you to vote for him on Election Day.
