Harkey, Stottlemyre complete Diamondbacks staff
PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have completed their coaching staff by naming Mike Harkey pitching coach and Mel Stottlemyre Jr. bullpen coach.
Harkey has held various coaching positions the past 14 seasons with San Diego, the Florida Marlins, Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees. He was Joe Girardi’s bullpen coach with the Yankees the past six seasons.
Harkey pitched in 131 games with the Cubs, Colorado, Oakland, the California Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers, going 36-36 with a 4.49 ERA.
Stottlemyre returns to Arizona, where he was pitching coach in 2009 and 2010. He held minor league positions in the Diamondbacks system for 11 seasons.
Harkey replaces the fired Charles Nagy. Stottlemyre replaces Glen Sherlock, who was moved to third base coach after Matt Williams was hired to manage the Washington Nationals.
