Officers with the Aiken Department of Public Safety shutdown South Boundary Avenue and Powderhouse Road on Thursday evening while they searched for two suspects following a burglary on Cherokee Street in downtown Aiken. The incident led to one person being shot.

Two unknown suspects broke into a residence on the 200 block of Cherokee Street off South Boundary Avenue around 5 p.m. Thursday, and one of the suspects ended up shooting an individual, said Capt. Marty Sawyer, with Aiken Public Safety.

The suspects fled the scene on foot before police arrived, he said.
