Aldelphi 5, Southern Colorado 4, 10 innings
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) _ Darren DePass’ suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 10th scored John Musmacker to give Adelphi a 5-4 win over Southern Colorado in the 1996 NCAA Division II Baseball championship.
Rich Echevarria’s leadoff single in the seventh broke up Jared Ewen’s no-hitter and began a four-run inning to give Adelphi (28-25-1) a 4-1 lead.
Southern Colorado (44-23) came back to tie the game with three in the eighth, highlighted by Dave DeMario’s two-run double that tied it 4-4.
Mike McNamara (3-2) picked up the win in relief. Darrell O’Brien (13-4) was the loser.
Adelphi advances to play Saint Joseph’s College Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
