SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A former nonprofit executive in South Dakota was to continue testimony in his own defense at trial on Wednesday. Prosecutors allege Stacy Phelps backdated contracts to avoid an audit in a case that authorities began investigating because the group’s financial officer killed himself and then his family in 2015. SELBY, S.D. — The small town of Selby is rallying to try to save a nursing home that provides a home to 45 people and a job for 50 others — one-fourth of the community’s workforce.
