Ashes 1-test star Agar suspended for dissent

January 30, 2014

SYDNEY (AP) — Last July’s one-test Ashes sensation Ashton Agar has been suspended for showing dissent in a state Futures League match.

Cricket Australia said Thursday that Agar was suspended from Western Australia’s next four-day match for breaching its code of behavior after being found guilty of showing dissent toward an umpire’s decision during a match against Queensland earlier this week.

It was Agar’s second offense within the past 18 months.

In his test debut against England at Trent Bridge, the then 19-year-old Australian posted a world-record 98 for a No. 11 batsman. However, the left-arm spinner was dropped after the next match and hasn’t made test selection since, including during Australia’s 5-0 Ashes sweep of England in Australia.

Agar scored 93 against South Australia in November, but has otherwise struggled this season.
