N.Y. Serial Killer Gets Maximum
NEW YORK (AP) _ A high school dropout who taunted police and terrorized the city as the Zodiac killer was sentenced to 83 years in prison for his six-year killing spree.
Heriberto Seda, a gun-collecting loner, was sentenced Wednesday on three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and several assault and weapons charges.
Judge Robert J. Hanophy told Seda, 30, that he was ``going to die in prison.″
Seda was convicted last month after a six-week-long trial. He was accused of being the Zodiac killer, a gunman whose letters taunted police and news organizations with plans to kill one person for each of the 12 astrology signs.
Seda was caught in 1996, corned by police in his Brooklyn apartment after shooting his half-sister. A detective linked him to the Zodiac attacks after spotting a similarity between his scrawls and the Zodiac’s letters to newspapers.
Seda has yet to be tried in four other shootings.
