Augusta man charged with attempted murder after reckless driving incident in North Augusta

Dametrus Sutton of Augusta has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly causing a car wreck on I-520.

North Augusta Department of Public Safety officers responded to the scene after receiving a call from a bystander who claimed Sutton’s vehicle swung toward another vehicle, causing it to spin out and hit the guardrail.

The victim, who is an acquaintance of Sutton’s, told officers that he deliberately ran her off the road, according to a NADPS incident report. The victim claimed Sutton had been swerving between lanes prior to the wreck and had prevented her from exiting the interstate with his vehicle.

According to the report, the victim stated Sutton hit the right rear area of her vehicle, which caused her to spin out and crash into the guard rail.

Two juveniles were in the vehicle with the victim at the time. No injures were listed in the report.

Sutton was booked to the Aiken County detention center. According to the report, he will face three charges for attempted murder for each occupant of the vehicle that crashed.
