Another Swede Headed to UML
LOWELL -- How Swede it is.
For the second time this week, a promising forward from Sweden has committed to the UMass Lowell hockey program.
First it was Andre Lee.
Now comes word that Carl Berglund, a 6-foot-2, 187-pound center, is also headed to UMass Lowell.
The native of Hamaro, Sweden will play in his homeland this season unlike Lee, who’s left Sweden and is playing in the United States Hockey League.
Berglund collected 60 points (28 goals, 32 assists) in 46 games last season for two Farjestad teams.
It’s been a busy week on the recruiting front for Norm Bazin and his staff. In addition to Lee and Berglund, the River Hawks also netted a commitment from Tewksbury native Owen Fowler.
Fowler is a sophomore forward at the Governor’s Academy in Byfield.
UML plays Acadia in an exhibition game today (1 p.m.) at Tsongas Center.
