Rep. Dave Joyce to be top Republican on subcommittee that funds environmental programs

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce of Bainbridge Township will be the top Republican on the House subcommittee that allots funding for the Interior Department, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and a variety of other federal agencies with environmental responsibilities.

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies is chaired by Democrat Betty McCollum of Minnesota. The ranking Republican on the full Appropriations Committee - Kay Granger of Texas - announced her party’s top subcommittee positions on Tuesday.

“We have assembled a great team of leaders to head our subcommittees this Congress,” said a statement from Granger. “I am looking forward to working with each of them as we seek to ensure the priorities of the American people are reflected in the work of this Committee,” said Granger.

Joyce’s new post will boost Ohio’s clout on the key committee, where Toledo Democrat Marcy Kaptur currently chairs the Energy and Water Development funding subcommittee, and Niles-area Democrat Tim Ryan heads the subcommittee that funds the federal government’s Legislative Branch.

“As a representative from the great state of Ohio, I know full-well how important it is to provide for programs that ensure we are protecting our natural resources and preserving them for future generations,” said a statement from Joyce. “I look forward to ensuring Congress appropriately addresses the funding needs of our nation and continuing to fight for the priorities of Ohio’s 14th District, especially protecting and preserving one of the greatest natural resources and economic powerhouses we have in the United States - the Great Lakes.”
