Dayton man charged with drug trafficking
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A Dayton, Ohio, man was arrested on heroin trafficking charges and had nearly $4,000 in cash, according to a news release from the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force.
Earlier this week, drug task force members, assisted by Portsmouth police and a detective with the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, stopped a vehicle in the 1900 block of Grant Street and arrested James Chauncey Reed, 24, of Dayton.
He was charged with trafficking in heroin, according to the release. He had about $1,200 in cash in his possession at the time of his arrest.
After executing a search warrant at his hotel room in Portsmouth, authorities found $2,760 more in cash and approximately 12 grams of suspected heroin and digital scales, leading to a second charge of trafficking in heroin.
Reed was transported to jail pending an appearance in Portsmouth Municipal Court. The case will be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office to be presented to an upcoming Scioto County grand jury, according to the release.
In an unrelated case earlier this week, the sheriff’s office arrested Griffin Diaz, 18, of Lucasville, on a charge of rape of a 15-year-old girl. He also was charged with one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
He was being held in the Scioto County Jail on a $105,000 bond pending an appearance in Portsmouth Municipal Court.
A detective with the sheriff’s office contacted the Ross County Child Protection Center and received medical records before filing charges, according to a news release.
