WVC SOFTBALL/BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Romanchick, Seminary Defeat Northwest
At Wyoming Seminary, Delaney Romanchick allowed two hits over seven innings and struck out 10 to lead Wyoming Seminary over Northwest, 6-1, on Tuesday in WVC softball.
Romanchick also had a triple, scored one run and drove in a run. Aubrey Mytych had three hits and scored twice, while Akira Kopec had two hits.
Courtney Cragle and Nicole Cragle each had singles for Northwest.
Hanover Area 4, MMI Prep 2
At MMI Prep on Monday, Sarah Tuzinski drove in three runs and pitched in on the mound as well to lead Hanover Area to a victory.
Pittston Area beats Crestwood
At Hughestown, Cole Cherkas went the distance, allowing one hit and striking out six as Pittston Area baseball extended its winning streak to five in a 6-1 win over Crestwood.
Cherkas improved to 2-0 on the year and lowered his ERA to 0.64. Joe Cencetti had three hits and drove in four runs, while Cherkas added two hits. Joe Stella has a single and two RBIs.
Colby Jones had the only hit for Crestwood, a double in the fifth inning.
Tunkhannock 3, Berwick 2
At Berwick, Tunkhannock took advantage of four Berwick errors to score three unearned runs and make them stand up in a victory over the Bulldogs.
The Tigers scored one in the second and two more in the fourth, only to need to bring on Nick Reposa for the final out to cut Berwick’s seventh inning rally one run short of forcing extra innings.
Tyler Faux had two hits and two RBIs for Tunkhannock, while Bill Dziak had a double and scored a run.
Ian Kishbaugh had two hits for Berwick. Max Slusser had a base hit and RBI, while Kaleb Gearinger had a single and scored one run.
Hazleton Area 14, Coughlin 1
At Hazleton, Jerome Repetz doubled and hit his first home run of the year, and Alex Amentler had a double and three RBIs as Hazleton Area opened up conference play with a win.
Brady Antolick pitched the first three innings to get the win. Gaby Colyer had two hits including a double and scored two runs.
Jason Rodriguez and Ben Yozwiak each had a single for Coughlin.
Wallenpaupack 3, Valley West 2
At Spartan Stadium, Wallenpaupack took advantage of a pair of errors and pushed across all three of its runs in the second inning to edge Valley West.
Izaiah Santiago pitched the first 5⅓ innings with five strikeouts to get the win. Anthony Church came on to earn the save.
Stephen Banas had two hits including a double for Valley West. Ryan Stevens and Garrett Vought also doubled.
