ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 11, 2019--Aéropostale ( Aeropostale.com ) and United Way Worldwide ( unitedway.org ) today announced that they will host 30 youth volunteers for an Alternative Spring Break to help rebuild fire-ravaged areas in Southern California. The Aéropostale volunteers will travel to the regions devastated by the Hill and Woolsey Fires in November 2018 and will participate in activities, such as planting community gardens and other efforts to restore properties that were destroyed.
“Alternative Spring Break is one of our most meaningful United Way initiatives, as it harnesses the energy of the next generation of problem solvers and gives them a way to personally impact communities and lives,” said Lisa Bowman, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer for United Way Worldwide. “We are grateful to Aéropostale for their leadership in providing the opportunity for these volunteers to begin what we are confident will be a lifetime of giving back to their communities. We also want to express our appreciation to Airbnb for donating housing for the volunteers as they work on these disaster recovery projects.”
“We are excited to collaborate with United Way to provide Aéropostale customers a chance to give back to those in need through the Alternative Spring Break program,” said Natasha Fishman, EVP of Marketing at ABG, the owner of Aéropostale. “Aéropostale takes pride in its core values of teamwork, compassion and respect and an audience that is passionate about supporting those less fortunate. Our partnership with United Way provides an important platform through which Aéropostale customers can support those effected by the deadly fires in Southern California.”
Alternative Spring Break, an immersive week of service projects and leadership building, began in 2006 to give students the chance to trade in their beach towels for a tool belt and learn more about the challenges facing the various communities that United Way serves.
