The deadline for an Ag program is approaching
NORFOLK - As we get closer to the New Year, you’re reminded to sign up for the Market Facilitation Program.
Extension Educator for Burt County John Wilson says the program provides a payment to producers of several agricultural commodities to help make up the losses caused by tariffs and reduced trade with international buyers.
Wilson says the original program gave payments on half of a farmer’s actual production in 2018.
“The first round of payments are $1.65 per bushel for soybeans, $0.01 per bushel for corn, and $0.86 per bushel for sorghum. Payments are also available for hog and dairy producers.”
Wilson says farmers have until January 15 to sign up for the program and until May 1 to prove their actual production.
