Moped rider critically injured in Lake Avenue crash

A moped rider was critically injured this afternoon when he lost control and sideswiped a car going in the opposite direction in the 5200 block of Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne police said.

Officers, medics and firefighters were called to the crash about 2:30 p.m. at Lake Avenue and Maysville Roa, and found an unresponsive adult man down in the roadway suffering from head trauma, city police said in a statement.

The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, the statement said.

Witnesses told police the moped rider was traveling east in the 5200 block of Lake when he lost control of his moped. Lake was shut down for about two hours to allow documentation of the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by city police.
