Suspect dies after exchanging gunfire with police in Peoria
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Police in Peoria say a shoplifting suspect who exchanged gunfire with officers had died at a hospital from his injuries.
They say 20-year-old Michael John Stout of Peoria died Tuesday morning.
Police say no officers were injured in the shooting that occurred Monday night at a Walmart store as officer arrived in response to a call about a man shoplifting a bottle of milk.
Police say the suspect fired several shots at arriving officers with some striking a police vehicle.
Officers returned fire and the suspect was taken into custody and given medical aid before being transported to a hospital.
Detectives at the scene recovered the handgun used by the suspect, which turned out to be a stolen gun from a vehicle burglary in Peoria on Monday morning.
