Guard Wanted in Robbery, Killing
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ A 20-year-old armored truck guard on the job for two months was being sought for the killing of his partner and robbery of $300,000.
An Armored Transport truck that had gone missing a day earlier was found Tuesday night, with the body of 30-year-old Rodrigo Cortez inside.
Police were looking for Thomas Wheelock, who is suspected of having shot Cortez several times before taking off with two company-owned pistols and the cash.
Wheelock had worked for the company less than two months and was on probation for a misdemeanor stemming from a 1995 robbery, FBI spokesman George Grotz.
``A significant aspect of this investigation will be to determine how a 20-year-old with a criminal background was able to obtain employment in which he was given custody and control over $300,000 and a couple of high-powered weapons,″ Grotz said.
