Boy Attacked by Wolf Held in Captivity
KENYON, Minn. (AP) _ A 5-year-old boy was in critical condition Monday after a wolf held in captivity attacked him.
Peter Lemke of Kenyon walked into Doug Earl’s yard Saturday morning, possibly to play with Earl’s pet wolf, said police Officer Troy Dunn. The boy was found semiconscious at about 11:30 a.m. with the wolf standing over him, he said.
The boy had multiple lacerations and punctures on the front and back of his abdomen and on his legs and arms, Dunn said, and was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
The wolf was temporarily quarantined, Dunn said.
The Department of Natural Resources would intervene if it was determined the wolf was taken from the wild said Nancy Hunder of the DNR’s enforcement division. If the owner shows a receipt that the animal was taken from a private game farm, it is treated as a dog, horse or any other domestic animal.
