Dismore Earns Pole for Casino Magic
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ Mark Dismore earned the pole for the Casino Magic 500 at Texas Motor Speedway with a qualifying lap of 215.508 mph Thursday night.
Dismore will start on the front row Saturday night alongside Kelly Racing teammate Scott Sharp. The duo also started 1-2 at Texas two years ago.
The qualifying run by Dismore came right after Sharp ran a lap at 215.065 mph. Sharp won the pole at the Indianapolis 500 last month, but crashed in the first turn of the first lap.
It is the fourth career pole, and first this year, for Dismore. In addition to winning the pole for the spring race at Texas in 1999, Dismore got his only IRL victory at the track that fall.
Sharp won the Casino Magic 500 last year, beating Robby McGehee by .059 seconds _ about a half of a car length _ in the closest race in IRL history. That was his fifth IRL victory, tying him with Greg Ray for the most in the 6-year-old circuit’s history.
Eddie Cheever Jr., starts third after a lap of 214.926. He starts in the second row with IRL season points leader Sam Hornish Jr. (213.255 mph), the only driver with two wins this season.
