Yanks sweep Orioles...Mets sweep Nats... Key players on Yankees and Mets placed on IL
BALTIMORE (AP) _ Mychal Givens walked Aaron Hicks with the bases loaded to force in the tiebreaking run in the ninth inning, and the New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 to complete a four-game sweep. Clint Frazier and Luke Voit homered for the Yankees, who went deep 13 times during the series. Baltimore has lost six straight. The Orioles own the worst record in the majors, 15 wins and 35 losses, and the worst home record of 6 and 19.
NEW YORK (AP) _ The Mets have completed a four-game sweep of the Nationals with a 6-4 victory. Carlos Gómez hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the eighth inning that helped New York overcome a Nationals comeback that started after Washington manager Dave Martinez was ejected following a heated argument with plate umpire Bruce Dreckman. The Nationals have lost five straight and six of seven. They dropped to a record of 19 wins and 31 losses.
NEW YORK (AP) _ The Mets have added infielders Robinson Canó and Jeff McNeil to the 10-day injured list. And the team has announced that slugger Yoenis Cespedes (yoh-EHN’-ehs SEHS’-peh-dehs) is expected to miss the entire season after having ankle surgery Thursday. Also in major league injury news, the Yankees have put CC Sabathia (suh-BATH’-ee-uh) on the 10-day injured list with right knee inflammation.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Kevin Durant is yet to progress to on-court work in his recovery from a strained right calf and won’t be ready to return for Golden State in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on May 30. Big man DeMarcus Cousins might be healthy for the series opener against either Milwaukee or Toronto. Both players were re-evaluated Thursday and the Warriors expect they each will be ready at some point during the team’s fifth straight finals.
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) _ Defensive tackle Adolphus Washington has signed with the Miami Dolphins, his fourth team since the start of last season. He was cut by the Buffalo Bills last September, spent a brief time on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad and then joined the Cincinnati Bengals, where he played in only four games and was slowed by a knee injury. Cincinnati released him a month ago. Also, the Dolphins have waived linebacker James Burgess.
