Young Turkish Soccer Fan Beaten To Death After Game
ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) _ A 17-year-old soccer fan was beaten to death by rival supporters after a league game between two Istanbul clubs.
Osman Gun was attacked by club-wielding Galatasaray fans after his Fennerbahce club won Sunday’s league game 3-0.
He was rushed to a hospital with multiple wounds but died shortly afterwards, the Hurriyet newspaper said.
The victim’s cousin told reporters that Gun, who was wearing the team’s yellow-and-blue striped shirt, had shouted ``Fenerbahce is the greatest!″ before the attack.
Police were searching for the assailants.
Both Istanbul clubs are contenders for the Turkish first division title.
After Sunday’s loss, Galatasaray fans stoned their team’s bus outside the stadium and called for its management to resign. Galatasaray fired its German coach last week after a series of losses.
