Attempted entries at Greenwich Avenue jewelry stores

November 19, 2018

GREENWICH — Police are investigating two attempted break-ins at two separate jewelry stores on Greenwich Avenue early Sunday morning.

An alarm went off at Betteridge shortly after 2 a.m., and responding officers found broken glass in the vicinity and a damaged window, according to police. The security company notified authorities, as well as a local resident.

At Shreve Crump and Low, another attempted break-in was reported around 2:25 a.m. A window there was also damaged. Police said both cases appeared to be attempted burglaries.

“No entry gained in either case,” said Lt. John Slusarz, and investigators are working with store security personnel to gather evidence. There were no suspects observed in the area.

The windows at the jewelry store are difficult to breach, Slusarz noted, even with heavy force. There are numerous pains of glass, and they are highly resistant to cracking.

The two stores are about a block apart.
