Troy St. 93, Youngstown St. 88

TROY, Ala. (AP) _ Derrick Bristol scored 22 points Sunday to lead Troy State to a 93-88 victory over Youngstown State.

Youngstown State (12-14, 7-11 Mid-Continent Conference) had a 42-35 halftime lead over the Trojans, who hit just 2-of-19 3-pointers in the first half. The Penguins even led by 13, 63-20, with 12:40 left in the game.

But Troy State (11-14, 8-8) staged a 16-2 run midway through the half.

Patrick Minifield hit two jumpers and Jermaine Ball followed with two consecutive treys to open the run. Then Jeff Black piped in with a jumper before Bristol hit two free throws with 7:59 remaining to make it 67-65 and give Troy State the lead for good. Bristol capped the run with a jumper to make it 69-65.

Youngstown’s Marcus Culbreth led all scorers with 34.

Patrick Minifield had 18, while Fred Spencer scored 17. Jermaine Ball added 15 and Rhodney Donalson scored 10 for Troy.
