Louisiana movie producer won’t buy historic Mississippi inn

July 23, 2019

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) — The scheduled sale of an antebellum Mississippi mansion and inn has fallen through.

United Mississippi Bank CEO Adrian Sandel tells The Natchez Democrat that Louisiana movie producer Jake Seal has called off plans to buy Dunleith. The bank foreclosed in January after the previous owner declared bankruptcy, owing more than $7 million.

The 22-room inn and restaurant that operated at Dunleith have closed.

Built in 1856, Dunleith is among the most recognized antebellum structures in Natchez.

Sandel says Seal told the bank and lawyers that he was backing out because of family health issues.

Seal owns Plantation Village Studios in Jackson, Louisiana. He had planned to use Dunleith to expand film and TV production in the Natchez area.

Sandel says the bank is resuming efforts to sell Dunleith to others.
