Heritage Valley ConvenientCare clinics offer $15 flu shots on Fridays through December

October 6, 2018

Tribune-Review reporter Emily Balser gets her flu shot on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 at the Valley News Dispatch office in Tarentum.

Heritage Valley Health System’s ConvenientCare walk-in clinics - including the Edgeworth location on Route 65 - are offering $15 flu shots every Friday in October through December.

No appointment is necessary and most insurances cover the cost of the influenza vaccine, a news release said.

Flu shots are offered all other days at Heritage Valley ConvenientCare for $28 or high dose for $49.

ConvenientCare clinics are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday. They are staffed by certified registered nurse practitioners and supervised by Heritage Valley physicians.

An annual flu vaccine is the best way to help prevent illness and greatly reduces the risk of serious complications that can lead to hospitalization and even death. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends getting the flu vaccine in the fall before the virus begins spreading in the community. After vaccination, it takes about two weeks for antibodies to develop in the body. Although it is recommended to get the flu vaccine by the end of October, getting vaccinated later is still beneficial.
