ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) _ Laticia Morris scored 13 points as No. 17 Auburn beat Providence 85-51 in the opening round of the Gooding’s Holiday Tournament on Saturday.

Trailing 41-35 at the half, Providence (3-5) cut the deficit to 41-39 on two free throws by Nadine Malcolm and a jumper by Meghan Hinds.

Auburn (9-0) put the game away by scoring 23 unanswered points, holding the Lady Friars scoreless for 9 1/2 minutes until Kerri Chatten ended the drought with a 3-pointer with 9:15 left to play.

Auburn then went on a 13-2 run that increased the margin to 75-44 with 4:16 remaining.

Auburn dominated the boards throughout, outrebounding the Lady Friars 47-24 while shooting 50.8 percent from the field thanks to frequent layups and putbacks. Providence shot only 34.6 percent from the field overall and made only 5-of-22 shots in the second half.

Morris’ 19 points topped five Tigers in double figures and she also led all rebounders with eight boards. Tonia Trail added 17 points for Auburn and Tiffany Krantz tallied 13 points and six assists. Chatten paced the Lady Friars with 14 points.
