Sheriff, FBI search Riverflats Coffee, Piper Tax
PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Mason County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the FBI, executed a search warrant for a business in the 1900 block of S. Pere Marquette Highway after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning as a part of an ongoing criminal investigation, said Sheriff Kim Cole.
Cole said the search was conducted by deputies, sheriff’s office detectives and agents with the FBI “at the Riverflats Coffee and Piper Tax.”
The sheriff’s office led the investigation, with FBI agents providing technological forensic assistance, Cole said.
“The case originated after we were contacted by the FBI, who was contacted by a Mason County business over alleged missing funds,” Cole said.
He said his office was initially contacted in June. The search warrants were not limited to just that one location.
“During the course of the investigation numerous search warrants were also served on financial institutions in Mason County,” he said. “Like I said, this is still an ongoing criminal investigation, and at this time, no arrest warrants have been obtained.”
Cole did not have a total number of warrants served.
Members of the Sheriff’s Office were still on scene at Riverflats Coffee and Piper Tax at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
