JERUSALEM (AP) _ A gunmen broke into an Israeli farming community late Sunday and opened fire, killing at least two people, Israeli security sources said.

The shooting occurred at Kibbutz Metzer, a collective farming community in northern Israel, just across the border from the West Bank, the sources said.

Israeli security forces rushed to the scene, but could not immediately locate the gunman, the sources added.

Hours earlier in the same area, a car exploded and killed the two Palestinians inside just as suspicious Israeli police moved to stop the vehicle.

That incident, just outside Kibbutz Metzer, was one of three instances Sunday in which Israeli authorities said they managed to prevent a planned suicide attack.
