JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) _ Connie Masterson of Sorrento, Fla., beat Holly Reynolds of Morrisville, Vt., 1-up in the final of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship at the Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club course.

″I’m a battler ... I don’t let anything get me down,″ said the 21-year- old Masterson, a senior at Central Florida. ″I just kept telling myself, ’You can win this.‴

In Sunday’s semifinals, Masterson beat Jill McGill of Denver 4 and 2 and Reynolds defeated Missy Arthur of Ames, Iowa, 3 and 2.

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) - Former Stanford star Jennifer Azzi scored 30 points as the United States routed Chile 121-41 in the women’s World Championship qualifying tournament Sunday.

The United States closes preliminary play today against Mexico. The top two teams from each four-team pool advance to the medal round and clinch a berth in the World Championships in Melbourne, Australia, on July 1-12.

FALMOUTH, Maine (AP) - John Morse shot his second consecutive 4-under-par 68 for a two-stroke victory in the Nike New England Classic.

″It’s been a long drought for me,″ said Morse, who finished play Sunday with a 10-under 278 total on the Woodlands Country Club course. ″My last win was in New Zealand in November of ’91.″

The 1990 Australian Open champion earned $27,000 to raise his season total to $57,675. Sam Randolph (65), Larry Silveira (68), Emlyn Aubrey (67) and Peter Jordan (73) tied for second.

BERLIN (AP) - Tony Vandenbosch announced his resignation as coach of Belgium’s national basketball team after losing to Turkey in the European championships.

″In five years I’ve led the team into the European championships, now its time for a new coach to bring in some fresh air,″ the 39-year-old Vanderbosch said Sunday.

Former NBA coach Jack Ramsay also resigned as advisor to the Belgian team.

PINEHURST, N.C. (AP) - Scott Medlin of Rockingham, N.C., birdied the final six holes for a 9-under-par 63 and a three-stroke victory in the T.C. Jordan Tour’s Foxfire Classic.

″I just made a lot of putts today,″ said Medlin, who finished play Sunday with a 23-under 265 total on the Foxfire Inn and Country Club course. ’I really got things going on the back nine.″

Ray Franz of Mount Pleasant, N.C., closed with a 67 to finish second.

NEW YORK (AP) - Blaine Backus of New York set a meet record of 31 minutes, 19 seconds in the New York Road Runners Greenway 10-kilometer run.

Rudolfo Obrego of New York set the previous mark of 31:41 last year.

Roberto Martines of Mexico finished second in Sunday’s race in 31:56 and Adah Akor of Kenya won the women’s division in 37:15.

HAYAKITACHO, Japan (AP) - Billy Dunk of Australia shot his third consecutive 2-under-par 70 for a one-stroke victory over Ichiro Teramoto of Japan in the HTB Senior Classic on Sunday.
