Phoenix defeat LCL

November 22, 2018

Forward Grace Schmidt recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds to propel the host Luther Prep girls basketball team to a 45-34 victory over Lake Country Lutheran in a nonconference game on Tuesday night.

Phoenix senior guard Ally Goba scored 11 points and did a solid job facilitating the offense.

Junior guard Naomi Bridgemann added seven points off the bench and connected on two key shots for Luther Prep.

“Bridgemann deserves the game ball off the bench,” Luther Prep head coach Mark Schroeder said. “She knocked down two threes and dove for loose balls. She’s only 5-foot-3 but came out with five rebounds.”

For Luther Prep (1-1), senior Carly Hirsch saw her first action of the season after missing the opening game with an injury. Hirsch finished with four points.

Lake Country Lutheran (2-1) played a zone defense which enabled Luther Prep to pass freely on the perimeter.

“They were in a zone for most of the game which gave us a chance to move the ball around,” Schroeder said. “We fed the ball to the bigs who did a nice job finishing at the rim or kicking out for shots. We did a nice job sharing the ball and playing unselfishly.”

Luther Prep hosts Central Wisconsin Christian on Thursday, Nov. 29.
