Tennessee school districts adds school resource officers
LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Officials say several school districts across eastern Tennessee have hired additional school resource officers.
WBIR-TV reported this week that Lenoir City Schools and Maryville City Schools are among the school districts that plan to increase officer presence this school year.
Chief Don White with Lenoir City police says three schools in the city shared two school resource officers, but they will now each have an officer. White says anytime there is a tragedy at a school, it heightens everybody’s attention to try to figure out what they need to do better.
A school safety task force has also discussed updating technology and security systems. But for now, White says having a full-time officer at each school is an important start in the bigger discussion on safety.
