CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) _ Sophomore Jody Buck scored 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting Saturday night as North Dakota State beat Southeast Missouri State 81-74 Saturday night in the NCAA women’s Division II championship.
The Bison led 38-34 at halftime and took the the lead for good at 50-49 on Susan Faus’ three-point play with 12:13 remaining.
North Dakota State (31-2) shot 59 percent in the second half and 54 percent overall. The host Ohtakians (31-4) had won 21 consecutive games coming in to the final.
Southeast Missouri led three times in the second half, but was unable to match North Dakota State’s ball-handling and half-court offense. Southeast Missouri’s biggest lead was at 49-45 following Stephanie Holland’s two free throws.
Nadine Schmidt had 13 points and seven rebounds for North Dakota State in a near-standoff against 6-foot center Jerri Wiley, who had 16 points and eight rebounds.
Sarita Wesley’s game-leading 26 points helped keep Southeast Missouri close. North Dakota State’s biggest lead was 81-72 with 28 seconds to go on Buck’s third 3-pointer.
