‘Scrumptious’: Applefest returns with ‘amazing food’
Despite the drizzling weather, more than 1,000 people flocked to the 29th annual Applefest Saturday at St. Simon Catholic Church in Ludington to get their share of tasty food and support a local cause.
“Everything was a success. It was a very busy day and a great day overall,” said Evelyn O’Brien, who chaired the event along with her husband, Michael.
Applefest, which is the largest annual fundraiser for the church, raised a gross profit of nearly $39,000 this year, O’Brien said. It could take until November to calculate how much their net profit was, since they have to subtract expenses and bills that are still in-coming. She said their expenses were about $6,000 so far.
“It’ll be awhile before all the bills come in and we know for sure,” she said. “I’m hoping we did as well as last year.”
