Fall is in the air (and ‘mums’ the word) at greenhouse

SOUTH POINT, Ohio — With fall’s arrival, there’s no better time to get your pumpkins, fall mums and other seasonal flowers, according to Debbie Hatcher, co-owner of Hatcher’s Greenhouse in South Point.

“We are in the fall spirit here, and the colors here are amazing,” Hatcher said. “We have created a destination that people want to spend time at while looking for their pumpkins, fall flowers and decorations.”

Temperatures have been in the 80s this week, but weather forecasts are calling for a cooldown in the Tri-State region as high temperatures drop into the 70s beginning Saturday.

“Saturday is the first day of fall, and the chill will be in the air, which makes for ideal weather and a great time to start planting and decorating your home and landscape for the autumn season,” Hatcher said.

Hatcher and her husband, Jay, have been operating the greenhouse since 1994.

Tess Riggs, of Ashland, was at Hatcher’s Greenhouse on Wednesday to buy fall mums for her mother, who she said likes to decorate her landscape for the season.

“The quality of the products here, as well as the service and knowledge of the staff, has kept my family coming here for many years,” she said. “You just don’t get the quality of color and expertise in planting and placement like you do here.”

Hatcher says you can find information about the greenhouse on Facebook at www.facebook.com/HatchersGreenhouse/, but the best thing to do is to stop by.

“Saturday is the beginning of fall, so just stop by and check us out,” she said. “I promise it will be worth the trip.”

Hatcher’s also has a Huntington location called Hatcher’s on the Hill, at 1601 5th Street Road.

Both locations are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
