Kenneth Allers

Kenneth Wayne Allers, 71, of St. Anne, lost his battle with cancer on Monday (March 11, 2019) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

He was born Feb. 1, 1948, the son of Edwin and Doreen (Holmes) Allers.

Kenneth graduated from Manteno High School in 1966. He graduated from Joliet Junior College and University of Illinois, where he was a member of the Alpha Chi Rho fraternity. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture finance. After briefly working in ag finance, he joined his father, Ed, and brother, Rich, at the Allers Aluminum Products Inc., where he worked in the community for more than 40 years.

He married Alice Ann Kerr on Aug. 3, 1974, in Orion. They had three children: Cherie, Dawn and Neal.

Ken was an active community member involved with the Kankakee Jaycees, Gideons International and the Master Gardener program through the 4-H Extension. He was the president of the Kankakee River Valley Forest Preserve for more than 25 years. He was also president of the 4-H Youth Foundation. He was a member of the Faith Church in Kankakee where he served as deacon and elder over the years. In retirement, he enjoyed teaching wood-working classes with the children of Faith Church, oil painting and traveling with his wife and family. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather, who will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife, Alice Allers, of St. Anne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cherie and Nicholas Grasman, of Midland, Mich., Dawn and Andy Schutt, of Steger; six grandchildren, Maribel Grasman, Aaron Grasman, Andrew Schutt, Naomi Schutt, Lydia Schutt and Rebekah Schutt; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Cathy Allers, of Bourbonnais; and one sister, Mary Lou Joubert, of Bourbonnais.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ed and Doreen; and his son, Neal.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, at Faith Church, 2400 Waldron Road, Kankakee, with a viewing at 10 a.m. The Rev. Alan Salwei and the Rev. Ken Tueck will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Manteno.

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial to Faith Church in Kankakee, Kankakee River Valley Forest Preserve or Kankakee County 4-H/Youth Foundation.
