Gravy Bowl gearing up for this Saturday

February 2, 2019
The annual Gravy Bowl is set for Saturday, Feb. 9.

ASHLAND — When the touchdowns have all been made, there is still one competition getting ready to simmer in Ashland, Kentucky. Hosted by Ashland In Motion, the annual Gravy Bowl takes place at Ashland Train Depot, located at 99 15th Street, and will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9.

Competition gets thick with three contests consisting of:

• Country Gravy — rich and creamy, skip the meats.

• Sawmill Gravy — give us all the meats.

• Freestyle Gravy —anything goes.

There are two skill level categories available, starting with “Seasoned Pros” or contestants can choose the level of “Homecookin’ All Star.” Contestants are judged on taste, originality and presentation. The winner from each division receives a trophy. One gravy making connoisseur will also compete for the “People’s Choice Award,” an award chosen specifically by the public.

The Gravy Bowl is open to the public. To sample some soon to be award winning biscuits and gravy, tickets must be purchased at the event. Tickets are $1 for an individual ticket or 6 tickets for $5.

Along with hearty home cooking, the Gravy Bowl will feature live music by Moonshine Crossing and The Sugarbeats.

Proceeds from the event will go towards benefiting future Ashland In Motion events as well as helping with revitalization. Registration for gravy making contestants costs $35 per entry, and $10 for each additional entry.
