Progress continues on La Porte Hospital; street closures and contracts announced
La PORTE – The early cold weather has not deterred construction teams at La Porte Hospital from moving forward with as much site preparation as possible for the new facility, which is scheduled to open in 2020.
It will be the community’s only full-service acute care hospital.
In the next major development, workers will tie city sanitary and water lines to the State Street mains, laying the infrastructure for the sanitary and water supplies to the new facility. Temporary street closures are needed for this work, as it requires substantial roadway excavation.
State Street will be closed between Teegarden and Tyler streets Nov. 26 and 27 for the first part of this project. Drivers should detour using Teegarden, Lincoln Way and Tyler.
Tyler Street will be closed between Lake and State streets Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 for the second part of this project. Drivers should detour using Lincolnway, Madison Street and Lake Street.
Dyer Construction Company Inc., out of Dyer, Indiana will complete the work.
Other contracts awarded for the new La Porte Hospital so far include Security Industries out of Hobart for fencing; Larson-Danielson out of La Porte for concrete; Wilson Iron Works out of Crown Point for steel; Helitech Civil Construction out of Caseville, Illinois, for rammed aggregate piers.
