ISU men’s tennis: Lohse and Rendek highlight Dar Walters Fall Classic
Fynn Lohse and Gary Rendek paced Idaho State at the Boise State Dar Walters Fall Classic this weekend.
Lohse notched an opening-round 6-1, 6-2 win Friday over Montana’s Fim Anderson in the orange singles main draw. Lohse faced Air Force’s James Scotty in the quarterfinals Saturday and won 6-4, 6-4.
In Saturday’s semifinals, Lohse beat Bryan Husin of Gonzaga 6-4, 6-3 before falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 Boise State’s Ryland McDermott in the championship match Saturday.
“Fynn Lohse really stepped up well and ended up getting to the finals,” Idaho State coach Mark Rodel said. “The only thing that held him back from achieving the win was a slow start.”
In the blue singles main draw, Rendek beat Montana’s Pontus Hallgren on Friday 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Rendek then beat Gonzaga’s Kyle Everly 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 in the round of 16 before punching his ticket to Saturday’s semifinals with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Seattle’s Alex Chan in the quarterfinals.
Rendek’s run ended in the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Emilio Moreno from Gonzaga.
“We are very pleased and excited as we head to the spring season,” Rodel said.
The Bengals continue play Oct. 14-15 at the ITA Mountain Region Championships in Las Vegas.
