Suspect surrenders after standoff in Allentown

October 13, 2018

A man is in police custody after an hourslong standoff in the Allentown section of Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh police spokesman Chris Togneri said officers were called to the 500 block of Industry Street about 6 p.m. for a report of shots fired.

A man was shot in the leg, treated at the scene and driven to a hospital, where he was in stable condition.

About 25 minutes later, police went to the 100 block of Walter Street several blocks away, where the suspected shooter was reportedly armed and on a roof, Togneri said in a statement.

Police established a perimeter, and SWAT was called.

Negotiators called the suspect and spoke with him for more than an hour. Shortly after 8 p.m., the suspect, who police have not identified, walked out of the house and surrendered.
