TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ Anthony Taylor scored six of his 27 points in overtime and Oregon outscored Arizona State 13-8 in the extra period as the Ducks beat the Sun Devils 87-82 in a Pacific-10 Conference basketball game Saturday.
Trailing 74-69, Oregon reeled off the final five points in regulation, including a 3-point goal by Steve Ranninger - his fifth of the game in seven tries - with 1:10 left to tie the game at 74-74.
Arizona State’s Tarence Wheeler, who had 19 points and was 5-of-8 in 3- pointers, missed a 15-foot jumper with four seconds left, sending the game into overtime.
The Ducks scored the first nine points of the extra period to take an 83-74 lead on two free throws with 1:46 to go by Taylor, the league’s leading scorer with a 22-point average.
Oregon, ahead 42-39 at halftime, opened the second half with a 16-4 run for a 58-43 lead with 12:45 left before the Sun Devils battled back to take a 69-67 lead on Wheeler’s 3-point goal with four minutes remaining.
Randy Grant tied it at 69-69 on a reverse layin for the Ducks with 3:40 to play.
Grant finished with 12 points and a career- and league-high 18 rebounds while Ranninger came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points. Brett Coffey added 10 for Oregon, now 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the Pac-10.
Arizona State lost its third straight game and fell to 13-10 overall and 6-7 in the conference despite John Jerome’s 16 points and 10 apiece from Arthur Thomas and Eric Holloway.
