Conservation District to hold hearing on tax
The Skagit County Conservation District will hold a public hearing Thursday on a proposed tax.
The hearing will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room at 2021 E. College Way in Mount Vernon.
The district will take comments on a proposal to institute a tax to help pay for its services, District Manager Bill Blake said.
The tax would require all property owners pay $5 per lot per year, with an additional 10 cents per acre. Owners of forest land would pay $3 per lot.
The district, which is a nonregulatory agency dedicated to maintaining natural resources, is considering the tax due to a loss of state and federal funding, Blake said previously.
