Va. Commonwealth 63, N.C.-Wilmington 45

WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) _ Patrick Lee and Ivan Chappell got 14 points apiece as Virginia Commonwealth overcame 39 percent shooting and took a 63-45 victory over North Carolina-Wilmington.

Although the Rams couldn’t find the range consistently, the Seahawks weren’t any better. North Carolina-Wilmington hit 32 percent of its field goal attempts, including a 7-for-23 performance in the first half.

Still, the Seahawks trailed 24-19 at halftime and were down 43-39 after a free throw by Darren Moore with 6:39 to go. Virginia Commonwealth (14-7, 7-1 Colonial Athletic Association) went on a 20-6 run down the stretch.

Bernard Hopkins hit 2-of-10 shots, but hit seven free throws to get 11 points for the Rams. Sherman Hamilton had 10 points.

Preston McGriff led the Seahawks (7-11, 5-3 CAA) with 19 points.
