Dow Slips 13 in Early Trading

NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices are lower in light trading. The Dow Jones industrial average is down 13 points in today’s early going. Decliners on the New York Stock Exchange hold a 5-4 lead over advancers.

The Nasdaq Composite Index has lost eight points and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Stock Index is down nearly two points.

Wall Street is following the direction set by most of the global equities markets today.

Stocks were sharply lower in Asia on continued worries about the unrest in Indonesia.

And European markets are also on the slide.

Weakness in shares of Microsoft is expected to affect the high-tech sector, which has recently seen selling in other bellwether issues, including Hewlett-Packard and Intel.

Microsoft shares are opening lower with the company facing likely antitrust lawsuits from the Justice Department and at least 20 states.
